Nutrition Therapy

Eating food is essential for living. We, as human beings, learned this pretty early on. Unfortunately, eating is not easy in today’s culture. With confusing nutrition information in the media, contradicting research, and recommendations inundated with biases, where are you to turn? At this point, everybody claims to be a nutrition expert.

This has laid the groundwork for disconnect and lack of insight for our body’s needs, which we have seen progress into disordered eating behaviors, chronic dieting and weight cycling — all situations that have significantly negative health consequences. Nutrition Therapy is a crucial part of your road to recovery, and the dietitian is an important part of the treatment team, so what’s involved in Nutrition Therapy?

We offer individualized evidence-based nutrition counseling for those with a history of chronic dieting, feeding or eating concerns, disordered eating behaviors, and eating disorders including: Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorders. Our focus is on the whole person, including both physical and mental health, by incorporating therapeutic frameworks such as Health At Every Size (HAES), Cognitive Based Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Theory (ACT) throughout nutrition counseling sessions. We intertwine Intuitive Eating into the majority of our recommendations, as we have seen much success in achievement of one’s goals (whatever that may look like for you) with adoption of these practices. We find that much of the work also involves exploration of body image concerns and healing one’s relationship with their body in order to make peace with food.

We work with all body types, races, genders, sexual orientations, and we treat young adolescents (working closely with parents), older adolescents, adults.
